There are many things that go into keeping a community strong and vibrant, among the more important of them is a strong educational system and keeping your money circulating in the local economy. There is one easy way in which you can support our schools, save money and help local businesses remain strong. We have recently joined with the OpenFence Neighborhood Network by offering a discount to all registered users. Registration is free and gets you a weekly newsletter with coupons to Alameda businesses. To become part of this network, we commit a portion of our advertising dollars directly to our local schools in addition to the contributions we already make. By participating, we are able to extend a coupon offer through the OpenFence Network to those who have also made a commitment to keeping our community strong. We encourage you to sign up, support our schools and save some money while doing it.
Seasonal Recipes From Chef-K
Culinary educator and Alameda Natural Grocery demonstration chef, Laurie Zerga, has provided us with some savory seasonal recipes to share with you. Ms. Zerga is founder and Chief Culinary Officer of Chef-K, which provides culinary education focusing on health, nutrition, food safety and hands-on training to children five through eighteen. A particular favorite of ours is her spring polenta, which she once prepared here at the store.

Electronic waste The average computer contains more than 30 toxic elements and other compounds, yet most old computers end up in the landfill. Instead of buying new, consider upgrading. If you have to purchase a new computer, take your old one to a computer recycling depot (to find one, see epa.gov/epaoswer/hazwaste/recycle/ecycling/donate.htm), or donate your old one to charity.
